Summary:

For 2 weeks now she has been having the exact same dream every single night. Most people won’t remember their dreams after a while but definitely not for her. How would you react if your nightmare is slowly fusing with reality? For 18 years her life has been nothing short of melodramatic. Now that she has met a special group of them, will it turn for the better or can things actually get worse than before? Foreword Checking her reflection in the mirror, Violet allowed a long sigh to slowly escape from her lips. This cannot go on for sure. The person in the mirror has swollen eyes, sunken cheeks and a body so skinny you could almost count the number of rib bones she has. Anyone out there will take a look at her and label her as an anorexic patient, and there is only one explanation for this. Ever since her 18th birthday 2 months ago, Violet has been haunted by the same dream over and over again. The thing about most dreams is that you can’t remember them the next morning no matter how hard you try. However, this peculiar dream is different. Every single detail, whether important or not, is etched so deeply in her mind it’s driving her insane. Worse of all, all it takes is for her to close her eyes and the images will start to playback like a broken recorder... --- She is running for her life. A powerful force is behind her, threatening to catch up any moment if she ever dares to slow down and catch her breath. Whoever said that you can’t feel pain in your dreams is obviously lying because her heart is pumping so hard right now it goddamn hurts. Panting heavily, she ran up the never-ending stairs, jumped over the gantry, ran across the platform...and it’s the end. Barely able to stop herself in time, Violet hovered precariously over the edge of the platform as she tried to regain her balance. Two choices. One, stand there and let the unknown enemy catch her. Two, jump off the platform and pray that she can survive this 100 stories fall. “It’s okay, just jump.” A gentle voice sounded. That voice, instead of coming from outside, felt more like it was inside her head.  She was the only person in sight but she could feel someone watching her, and this person knows of her dilemma. Somehow, Violet trusts that voice completely. Feeling at ease, she spread her arms open and allowed herself to fall freely into the emptiness below. Screaming at the top of her lungs, Violet flailed her arms wildly as the objects on ground level magnify at an exponential speed, making her instantly regretting her choice. 10 metres off the ground, her speed started to slow down and when both of her feet were finally planted onto the solid surface, the same voice came up in her head again. “Good girl. Now, run!” The same feeling is back. The feeling of desperateness, the feeling of impending doom, the feeling of her imminent death if she doesn’t get out of this place fast enough. It’s almost creepy how come this feeling is so surreal yet still managing to instil fear in her. She could sense that the mysterious enemy is still hot on her heels. “To your right! Go!” Without having to be told twice, Violet started sprinting down the dimly lit pathway , stumbling a little here and there as she felt her body weigh heavier and heavier. She couldn’t help it but to slow down as she went on. “Come on, don’t give up!” Still, her steps became smaller. “You need to keep going!” She gradually stops. “He’s here --!” Before the sentence was even completed, Violet sensed an electrifying chill going up her spine, making her mind go wild for a moment. There was a pungent smell of alcohol in the air and she could barely comprehend what just happened when two black figures appeared out of nowhere, one of them jostling her forward while the other tackled with the invisible force around them. “Go with him! Run!” It was the same voice! The black-hooded figure that was fighting...and the voice that was in her head! Nodding her head furiously, Violet allowed herself to be dragged along a labyrinth of back alleys by the second black-hooded figure. As time passes, the effects of adrenalin rush is rapidly slipping away and Violet could feel the heaviness taking over her body again. It is a queer feeling. It seems like her fitness level has fallen to ground zero since the moment she jumped off the platform. Although she has never been the athletic sort of person, Violet is petite and health-conscious, going for slow jogs every now and then. However, it has been no more than 5 minutes since she got here and it felt as though she has been running since forever. Tripping over herself, Violet stumbled forward and clung onto the arms in front of her for dear life. “I can’t...no...strength...stop...” It wasn’t easy getting those words out of her mouth. The man she was hanging on to stopped and turned towards her suddenly, making her face smash right into this chest in the most unglamorous manner ever. Despite such an embarrassing scene, Violet still managed to notice how good-looking he actually was, stunning her for a moment as she looked him in the eyes. Under the dim moonlight, Violet heard his husky voice whispering a soft “Excuse me” as she was pinned against the cold wall and then his warm lips placed gently on hers. This handsome stranger...is kissing her. --- The timing can never be more accurate than this. Every single time Violet reaches this scene in her dreams, her eyes will automatically spring open and she’ll find herself drenched in cold sweat, lying on a mattress so hard it does resembles the wall she was pinned against but this time with no hooded figure in sight. Each time she will try going back to sleep, but each time she will find herself tossing and turning in bed until dawn breaks. Tearing her eyes away from the mirror, Violet turned towards her wardrobe and randomly grabbed a pair of jeans and a top. The jeans hung loosely around her protruding hip bones, and the shirt which used to fit her nicely appears to be oversized now. Holding back yet another sigh, Violet forced a smile onto her face as she mentally wished herself good luck for the new job she is embarking on today. She knows that it will not be easy – but for the sake of her own future, she is determined to survive the night.
